DEAR FUTURE SELF

BY ANISTON CRIDDLE

Dear Future Self,

If only I knew you now, I would prepare for the obstacles that are yet to come -- whether they be 1 week, 6 months, or 9 years from now. I hope you get through those obstacles with God by your side. Never be afraid to talk to him, because He is listening.

Dear Future Self,

I hope you are satisfied with how you are living your life. I hope you have set standards so high that they seem impossible. I hope you are happy and content yet working hard to make those big dreams come true one day. I hope you accomplish everything you wish to.

Dear Future Self,

I hope you wake up everyday knowing it could be your last, so that you make it the best. I hope you never take life for granted. Life is a gift. Remember that. Never be ungrateful. I hope you make others feel grateful for what they have too, knowing they have it good compared to some.

Dear Future Self,

I hope you are surrounding yourself with people who lift you up -- people who are healthy for your soul. I hope you surround yourself with people who make you truly smile on the inside. I hope you are content with these relationships and who they involve. I hope you have someone who treats you as if they are still trying to get you. I hope you let them know how you feel, even if it’s hard. I hope you have a bond with your circle stronger than those bracelets you get at a fair or a hospital.

Dear Future Self,

I hope you live everyday with a smile on your face. This is contagious. Shine your light into others. Carry out your love into this great big world, and use it for something good. I hope you spread love as if it’s some M&M’s. I gave some to a couple of people the other day, and their faces just lit up. I felt good about myself. Making others happy -- I hope you do this. I hope you have an open mind for those around you. I hope you let those closest to you know how much you love and care for them. Help others as if your life depended on it. I hope you never take your anger out on others. I hope you put others before yourself. I hope you apologize when it’s expected and when you feel the need to.

Dear Future Self,

I hope you know who you are. Know your worth. I hope you continue to care about yourself, but not too much. I hope you never look down on yourself nor others; we're all equal. I hope you continue to grow in all ways. I hope you are pursuing a career you love. I hope you know change is good every once in a while. I hope you try a new food and maybe even a new restaurant every once in a while. Don't be afraid to try something new. Be adventurous, but eat gas station chicken every chance you get.

Dear Future Self,

I hope you are closer to God, and continue to grow closer to him everyday. This will fill your mind with positive thoughts that are meant to be there.

Dear Self Now,

I am proud of you and who you are. How far we have come in the last couple of months. I am proud to see the new you coming out. The new us. I am working everyday to better you. To better us. God’s plan is bigger and better than our own. Let's remember that.

Love,

Me
